Hey there! This is another installment in my From The Archives series, where I revisit one of my earlier pages. I’m going in chronological order, so that those of you who have just discovered the comic can get caught up. Today I’m presenting Page Four from Issue One, which is another page that I completely redrew in preparation for print.
Here’s the version that’s in the printed comic:
Compare that with this slightly earlier version:
I had a lot of space to play with in the first panel, and so for the print version, I decided to add some magic words to Sugar Daddy’s incantation, to make it seem a bit more esoteric and occult. I reduced the font size in the word balloons to accommodate the extra elements, too but hopefully that’s barely noticeable.
To come up with the magic words I used a sigil creation technique that I first learned about in the letter column of Grant Morrison’s 1990s Vertigo comic, The Invisibles.
More in-depth stuff beyond the paywall!
